Arrow The Fire Elementalist : Going pure Nuke

There is one problem with the nuke player. We have a tendency (its the fire .. pretty pretty FLAAAMMEES) to try and tank across the given lands of Tyria as well in its more dubious locations such as the UW - FoW - (See where I am going with this?)

I am just as guilty. But that does not mean you cannot do it. Just means you have to approach it the right way. So lets clear up a few things that people who play nukes often get wrong (you know who you are)...

1) YOU ARE NOT A TANK. Ya it looks heroic running up flames jumping everywhere till in a minute and a half your waiting to re-spawn while the rest of your group is battling for life and limb and glory minus your pyrotechnics. Course if your all just in it to have fun atm hell go for it, flames a blazing.

2) AOE and DPS, learn their mystery's wisely, your a mage after all so start studying. An ele who does NOT know the inner workings of this strange math will never make it an hour out of Ascalon (and seriously have you seen that place? Who would want to stay there. The foods better in Lions Arch trust me)

3) Yes your hero's love you, they adore you and you must set them up correctly.THEY are your tank, your wall, your support, and the reason you now have a shiny new OB shard to show off to your friends (who have actually like 100+ of them but are humoring you until week four when they just tell you to shut the ...)

4) No ones build is good, because it is THEIR build. Ya some stuff works but hey if the coats a small and you wear a large.. Do I need to explain this one?
Make what works for you. We serve a purpose or we wouldn't be in the game. The same group of players screaming "NUKE LF NUKE" one week will be shunning us the next.. Odd thing really considering WHAT exactly we could set on fire.. no no!! Bad thought BAD thought !! ..

5) This is not Lord of The Rings. There is no super school of mages or orders left in Tyria. We are all, (All Ele's) basically a Rogue group attuned to a certain elemental aspect. Switching your mentality to a more roguish view point is going to open up a whole new world of you not only surviving, but flourishing where others have fallen, or hit the proverbial "Build|Wall" and just cant go any further.

Ok lecture over now on to my build (which I have not changed once in like 3 years and still works lol)

Ele | Me

Skills:
(Numbers indicate order I fire them off no pun intended)

Flare - whenever I have to spam attack enemies already on fire
Liquid Flame - 4
Lava Arrows - 5
Elemental Lord -1
Glyph of Immolation -2
Savannah Heat -3
Flame Burst - For enemies that get to close or to break aggro
Flame Djinn's Haste - Same thing as well as speed run

Deldrimor Fire Staff - It just works well with this setup ya know if its not broke as they say

Ancient Armor Set with Fire on z Head

My entire armor set stacks energy and fire bonus's as well as a few health perks but mainly energy. There are various ways of doing this so play around with it. I didn't do anything drastic just used what seemed to fit for the entire armor set based on what I needed at the time. ..

Energy is our lifeblood the other bonus's are there and most welcomed

Health - 511
Energy - 90 (can be buffed to 120)

Base Fire (13) (from my armor and staff)
Base Energy (13) (from my armor and staff)

I can always buff to about 15 in both using consumables and heros.
So that small sparkler suddenly becomes a raging fire ball of hellish doom (Looks cool as hell too at night to watch 30 char running around on fire in the dark.. When two of them bump into each other I like to call down from a cliff or something "TAG YOUR IT! HAHA".. ahh good fun.. Huh? Oh well ya don't worry eventually they just fall over and stop moving)

Oh and my brothers and sisters of the flame... Remember...

NEVER be ashamed in the heat of some glorious and dramatic "SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY its the Battle for all Tyria!!" moment to enjoy the comforting and delicious (and highly popular) consumable. There is nothing I like more then uttering ancient incantations, and forming GIANT glowing fire sigil's in the air before all hellfire rains down and doing it with a candy cane in my mouth... (I like the Asuran Blueberry ones..)

So now on to heroes:

I use MOX like crazy he can shadow step to an enemy or group the moment you attack or they aggro and can block advances. Two Moxs? Even better. Then I have Ranger lock the enemy up, while my ME | RT do their nefarious deeds to them and spirit summon. All this time my Necro is set as a battery (new players look it up)and hangs back near my monks who can heal AND PULL REZ with full health and energy far away from the battlefield.. Depending on what, where, sober, ya know GW player basics, I simply add in some pure tanks just to add to the wall.

Our job is to sit just in front of the monks and stack fire on everything breathing that is trying to kill us.That's it, no rocket science involved. You can quest, solo with heroes, farm, whatever you want to do.

So that's it, no super long player jargon infused explanation ( I cant read half of them either I mean seriously get out and get some sunlight or something)
but just a hey I play one too, yes nuke's are awesome, and this is how I do it and some mistakes I have seen others make as well as myself from time to time.

SO for new players hope that helped, or anyone interested in playing a fire ele.

My in game name is Roland Xiom msg me.. lets go watch char run around on fire together

I also suspect I'll be closing this thread soon enough too.

I wanted to give you some suggestions before I saw Flare.

Edit: I read a part of it, but why do I feel you don't talk about GW?

It's a fun read.

I never liked flare because as you said, it does seem like a mere sparkler compared to the other ele options. But maybe with huge buffs in the fire attribute it could be decent for non-serious PvE.

I don't know why you would close this Calista, unless people start trolling the guy.

Even before updates, this build is bad 3 years ago.

Seems OP wants to roleplay rather than have an effective build, which is fine. Just don't expect it to be any good, and certainly don't go making a thread on it.

Flare - horrible , you're better off with conjure + wanding (11 base DPS before conjure and 0 energy cost or aftercast)
Liquid Flame - okay
Lava Arrows - waste of energy most of the time
Elemental Lord - okay
Glyph of Immolation - useless because it doesn't give AoE burn
Savannah Heat -useless due to scatter pf DOTAOE (Damage over time AOE) and Teinai's does more unless your targets stand in it for >3 seconds
Flame Burst - PBAOE (point blank area of effect) on an ele is terrible
Flame Djinn's Haste - IMS (increased movement speed)/PBAOE on an ele is kind of pointless as well. Kite instead of using this.

Also, no fire attunement (a total catastrophe of making an ele build without attunements) means you run out of energy in about 5 casts. Energy storage is not energy management. 90 energy means jack squat. I run a 10% cast time spear of defense+shield on my elementalist as a defense set and 20% recharge wand+focus otherwise. You don't need more than 30 unless you are running Mind Blast or Protective Bond (with Ether Renewal).

480HP + 30 (shield/focus) + 50 Vigor + 2x vitae= 580 -35 (major fire) = 545 , 70 armor (blessed insignia)

edit: this is more HP and armor than you have after a +60HP Deldrimor staff. I had to look the staff up because I always run 20% recharge wand + focus. +5energy>50 also happens to be the worst inscription for elementalists not running Protective Bond under Ether Renewal.

Eles also shouldn't be running around in staves all the time (except for casting attunements/Elemental Lord) unless they're using massive amounts of enchantments : Ether Renewal Protters for example. 2 copies of 20% recharge (for a total of 36% sue to the way GW does math: 1-0.8*0.8=0.36) is more important and so is cast time, the other bane to elementalists.

If you want to be running fire, you're shortchanging yourself by running PBAOEs.

You don't need to be very creative if you just want single target DPS:
12+1+2 fire or 12+1+3
8+1 energy storage --> +27 even before focus is more than enough, this is for glyph to reduce 15 energy and AoR to return +1 even after weakness
10 in whatever

Fire attunement
Mind Blast <-- if you love spamming single target DPS
Rodgort's Invocation
Liquid Flame/Fireball (projectile)
Glyph of Lesser Energy/Glowing Gaze
Meteor
optional
Aura of Restoration

Or multiple target AoE:
12+1+2 fire or 12+1+3
9+1 energy storage --> breakpoint for Glyph, Elemental Lord
9 in whatever

Searing Flames
Glowing Gaze
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Liquid Flame
optional (Meteor?)
optional (Mark of Rodgort?)
Fire attunement
Aura of Restoration/Elemental Lord

basically, http://www.guildwars.com/competitive...synergyone.php

You say tanking is bad, then have 2 PBAoE skills
You have flare AND lava arrows (just ONE is bad...)
No PvE-only skills
No attunement
No snare for SH.

You use monk heroes
Your necro is a battery, seemingly just for you
You use a melee hero as a tank.

Enough said?

If you haven't figured it out, this guy is obviously trolling. Spamming skills without an attunement?
Come on, definitely a troll.

Must be a troll, since most people realize ele is kind of pointless in HM till Anet posts update (which I believe they officially mentioned on facebook or somewhere recently)

On a serious note to OP:
I do think you should look more into air magic. The inherent 25% armor penetration on many skills actually equals to around +41% more damage. And as a general rule... dealing more damage is better than having extra protection.

Invoke Lightning is one of the more powerful elites for an elementalist right now.
Basically you ball the mobs up, if possible Deep Freeze them and have you and a few heroes do Invoke Lightning.

For example:
Invoke Lightning ... Your main damage skill.
Lightning Orb ... Secondary damage skill + dealing cracked armor.
Air Attunement ... A must for E-management.
Auspicious Incantation ... Mesmer skill that turns your costly Deep Freeze into a huge energy gain without too big drawback.
Deep Freeze ... Even at 0 Water Magic it's a very powerful snare.
Blinding Flash ... For any melee that pass through, or against some pesky Barrage/Incendiary ranger.
(Rez) ... A hard rez is always good, but not needed on all heroes.
(PvE Skill) ... Ebon Battle Standard of Honor, Pain Inverter, etc. depending on situation.

(Heroes) ... Replace Auspicious/Freeze for something hero friendly, like Power Block or Waste Not, Want Not. They're good at using Arcane Mimicry to copy an ally's elite they can actually use (if they have at least 6 points in attribute in same line), so more Invoke Lightning spam. But it's gonna require better e-management.

Now I bet that 6 Invoke Lightning eles would do some serious damage. 7th char for balling them up, and 8th maybe a N/Rt for some heal/prot.

I can verify that the OP's build is effective enough to beat anything in HM and get 50/50 HoM. Some people facepalm at the OP, I facepalm at Guild Wars.

that's not really an effective argument. practically anything can get 50/50. hell half the time i wasn't even paying attention when i was vq'ing.
what everyone is saying is that his skills and heroes aren't set up as well as they could be, and what he's using are very underpowered and shouldn't be used when we have many better choices

I've seen this mentioned on the forum here several times but I can't find it. Anyone know where something like this was mentioned? Checked wiki talk pages and everything

EDIT: found this: http://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?...al_PvE_balance

It's a comment on toning down armor ignoring damage and updating rangers, eles and paradons.

Specutrollation: they's gonna nerf all other profs so eles are best now :P

Edit2: it's way down on the bottom, the bottomest

anyway, is that what people are referring to?

Half of your post makes no sense whatsoever and this is either going to turn into OP trolling or balance arguments. Closed.
